The 2019 “State of Oconee” focused on partnerships

The chamber of commerce estimate for the crowd at today’s “State of Oconee” luncheon was nearly 250 people, representing many walks of Oconee County life, from both the public and private sectors. This annual occasion is highlighted by remarks from leaders of both the municipal and county governments. The mayors of the county’s three largest municipalities focused on the theme for this year’s event—“The Power of Partnerships.” And they told of how the cities, working with the county and the state, are able to produce team efforts that give rise to the well being of their communities and residents. New to the event was the newest member of the Oconee County Council, District One’s John Elliott. A Chester native who has made Oconee his home the last four and a half years, Elliott put the finishing touch on his remarks this way: “Economic Development is coming right at us. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.” Elliott made reference to an expanding Clemson University and how that growth is going to push across water in Oconee County. Ellicott completed a dais that included remarks by the five municipal mayors: Linda Oliver of West Union, Lynn Towe of Salem, Danny Edwards of Walhalla, Dan Alexander of Seneca, and Brian Ramey of Westminster.
