Fire destroys Oconee poultry house

An early afternoon fire consumed a poultry house near highway 59 in the Crossroads community.  All chickens inside died.  Multiple fire units responding had difficulty maneuvering their trucks down a dirt road and, on arrival, according to one of the firefighters, high winds helped propel the fire throughout the structure.  The location was just south of the Farm Cafe.
