Sunday is National Family Literacy Day

Sunday is National Family Literacy Day, and Oconee County Council and the Seneca City Council are among the government bodies that are drawing attention to the 26th anniversary of the event.  Established by the U-S Congress in 1994, the day highlights the importance of reading and learning for the entire family and stresses that parents have an impact on what their children learn.  Julian Davis, chairman of the county council, and Dan Alexander, the Seneca mayor, have affixed their signatures to proclamations that point out that as many as one in six adults struggles with reading and writing and, by learning to read, you can gain self-respect and confidence and strive to goals otherwise unachievable.
