Summer strorm causes havoc, mainly in Seneca area

An especially nasty late afternoon storm rocked parts of Oconee with heavy rain, wind, flash lightning, and long periods of strong thunder.  One of the summer storm casualties appeared to be the large U-S flag that flies in front of Lake Keowee Dodge on 123.  Part of the flag was left in tatters.  Seneca Fire Department reported power outages, trees down on streets and, in some instances, atop homes and at least one automobile.  The damage appeared to be concentrated south of the railroad. Today’s forecast indicates we could have a repeat performance–a 40% chance for showers and thunderstorms and rainfall amounts of between one-tenth and one-quarter of an inch.
