Still “due diligence” on the school property

An Oconee school district administrator expressed the hope yesterday that, during a meeting next month or the following, the county board of trustees will be in position to resolve where the district will build the replacement Seneca Middle School. The district identified Wells Highway property for the new school last year, but never consummated the purchase. And it’s believed the district office has been looking elsewhere on the Wells Highway for a suitable location. Meantime, the agenda for next week’s meeting calls for the trustees to once again take up the property matter in closed session. Steve Hanvey, associate superintendent, said, “We will have SMS (Seneca Middle School) on the executive session agenda as we are still in the due diligence stages. If all goes well with the testing, DOT and OSF (Office of School Facilities ) my hope would be we could present something in one of the February meetings or the first March meeting.”
