Spring cycle for spending tourist tax dollars
The spring cycle to spend $142 thousand dollars of accumulated Oconee ATAX monies received a positive nod last night from the county’s fathers. But one councilman, District Five’s Glenn Hart, complained that the county’s PRT commission is too liberal in doling out the taxes that are accumulated locally from accommodations revenues. Hart has questioned Seneca’s plans to spend $5 thousand to advertise its Independence Day event and previously was critical of what the city pays for the fireworks part of the July 4th celebrations. Besides Seneca, ATAX spending is recommended for Westminster and Walhalla, Discover Upcountry SC, Eagles Nest Art Center, the South Carolina Apple Festival, among other applicants.
