Soil and Water District promotes Stewardship Week

The Oconee Soil and Water Conservation District, partnering with the national association, is celebrating Conservation Stewardship Week.  The theme is “Healthy Soil, Healthy Life.”  Last week Oconee County Council proclaimed the week locally, and today the district sponsors the start of the Oconee Seed Exchange, in the lobby of the Agricultural Building, 301 W. South Broad Street, Walhalla.  The county’s Soil and Water District form 85 years ago this fall, to help Oconeeans implement conservation programs and promote awareness and efforts that protect and improve natural resources.  Oconee holds the distinction of having recorded the first conservation plan in the U-S, by Mrs. Ploma Adams 85 year ago.  Conservation district are an important resource to those interested in expanding awareness of natural resources and natural beauty.
