Shirley Ann Hughes Jaynes

Westminster- Shirley Ann Hughes Jaynes, 83, formerly of 207 Walhalla St., Westminster, SC, died on January 8th, 2022, surrounded by family at Oconee Medical Center, Prisma Health. Born on February 3, 1938, in Anderson County, Shirley spent her life in Westminster. Following her 1956 graduation from Westminster High School, she attended Erskine College, receiving an associate’s degree in secretarial science. She married Lewis Jaynes, on November 5th, 1960. She devoted her entire married life supporting him, their children, and grandchildren. In the 1970s, she was the owner/operator of Candy Cane Nursery in Westminster, later working in the office of Dr. Rudy Nimmons, Belk Department Store, and Oconee Medical Center. She had been a member of the Red Hat Society, WAHPS (Westminster Area Historical Preservation Society), as well as the Paws and Taws square dance club. She was a devoted member of Westminster Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, the Agnes Morgan SS class, gardening after retirement, and her dear group of friends. Shirley loved all things, Clemson!

 

Mrs. Jaynes is survived by children, Luanne (Rusty) Nuttall of Townville, SC, Suzanne (Wes) Turton of Columbus, GA, and Richard (Shannon) Jaynes of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Chip (Caroline) Snellings of Iva, SC, William Turton of Washington, DC, Lillian Nuttall of Townville, SC, John Turton of Columbus, GA, and Lewis and Patton Jaynes of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by a sister, Jean Hughes Nicholson of Dorset, England; sisters-in-law Joretta (Loyd) Hood of Westminster, SC, Camilla (Randall) McCracken of Walhalla, SC, and brother-in-law Roscoe Jaynes of Laurens, SC, as well as special caregiver, Kimberly Jones. She is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mrs. Jaynes is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis A. Jaynes; her parents, Beatrice and J.P. Hughes; mother-in-law, Bennie Ree Jaynes, brother-in-law, Christopher Nicholson, and sister-in-law, Lois Jaynes Flanagan.

A private burial will be held at Ramsey Creek Preserve, Westminster, SC, on Sunday, January 16th, 2022. A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, May 1st, 2022.
