December 22, 2024

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Sherrill Marie Lee Smith, 80, passed away peacefully on Dec. 22, at her home in Mt. Pleasant, surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 11, 1944, in Walhalla, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Felce Otis Lee and Ona Marie Lee. She was a retired yarn inspector at Avondale Mills, in Walhalla, where she took great pride in her work.

Sherrill is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Cobb Bramlett, of James Island, S.C., and Julie Addis Scarafile (Michael), of Mt Pleasant; a brother, Jack Lee (Ethel), of Walhalla; and five grandchildren, Austin Bramlett, Nick Bramlett (Nathália), Abbey Bramlett, Vito Scarafile and Leo Scarafile. Sherrill is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Debbie Bush Redford, Laura Lee, Mark Gillespie, Danny Lee, and Michael Lee. She was actively involved in their lives as they were growing up. In addition to her parents, Sherrill was predeceased by her sisters, Joann Lee Bush and Barbara Gayle Lee; her nephew, Robbie Bush; and brother-in-law, Bobby Bush.

Sherrill lived a full life spending time doing the things that brought her joy: time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren who were the pride and joy of her life and who lovingly called her “Nennie;” listening to her all-time favorite, Elvis; talking with her friend of 68 years, Betty Smith; watching entertaining shows and shopping. A devoted and loving mother, Sherrill had an incredibly generous heart. She was funny, sweet, talkative and especially loved to share stories about her five grandchildren, whom she greatly loved. She may be most remembered for her fabulous cooking. Each grandchild has a ‘favorite’ and she delighted in honoring their special requests.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Jan. 25th, 2025 in Mt Pleasant.
