Seneca High School Athletic Hall of Fame Announces 2019 Inductees

Seneca Senior High School has announced the 11th Class of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame Night will take place Friday, November 1, 2019, during halftime of the Seneca vs. Pendleton Football Game.

The 2019 two-member class includes Bobcat athletes, Mr. Clarence Kay (SHS Class of 1980) and Mr. Joe Don Reames (SHS Class of 1997).

Clarence Kay graduated from Seneca High School in 1980.  While at Seneca High School, Clarence earned letters in three varsity sports.  He earned four letters in football, four letters in basketball, and four letters in track.  As a member of the track team, Clarence was a three-time All-Region selection.  He was also named to the All-State team in 1980.  Clarence was a champion high jumper.  He was the 1978 Region Champion in the high jump; the 1978 and 1979 Upper State Champion in the high jump; and the 1978 State Champion in the high jump event.  As a member of the basketball team, Clarence was named to the All-County team twice.  During his four years as a varsity football player for Seneca High School, Clarence was named to the All-County team, All-State team, and the All-American team.  After graduation, Clarence played football at the University of Georgia from 1980-1984. During his four years at Georgia, he had 51 receptions for 727 yards and 5 touchdowns. Clarence went on to the NFL and played with the Denver Broncos for 10 years.  He was drafted in the seventh round.  In his NFL career, Clarence had 193 receptions for 2,136 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Joe Don Reames graduated from Seneca High School in 1997.  Joe Don lettered in two varsity sports at Seneca High School.  He earned 4 football letters and five letters in baseball.  As a member of the baseball team, Joe Don was named to the All-Region team in 1997 and 1998.  He was also named the Region Player of the Year in 1998 and made the 1998 All-State team.  Joe Don was selected to play in the North / South All-star game in 1998 and was named “Mr. Baseball” runner-up for the state.  As a member of the Seneca High School football team, Joe Don was a four-year starter at quarterback for the Bobcats.  In 1996, Joe Don threw for 1,489 yards and 18 passing touchdowns.  He also rushed for 943 yards, and 17 rushing touchdowns in leading the Bobcats to a 14-1 record.  The Bobcats won the 1996 Upper State Championship, averaging over 50 points per game.  In 1997, Joe Don was selected to the All-State team and selected to play in the North / South All-Star game.  He was also the runner up for the “Mr. Football” award.  Joe Don finished his football career 43-10 as a starter:  his freshman year the Bobcats were 9-3; 11-3 his sophomore year; 14-1 his junior year; and 9-4 during his senior year.  Joe Don received a full scholarship to attend Clemson University to play football and baseball.  He lettered in Clemson football in 1999, 2000, and 2001.  In 2000, he was nationally ranked as a punt returner and was named the Special Teams MVP.  Joe Don also lettered his freshman year at Clemson University in baseball in 1999.  After graduating from Clemson University, Joe Don went on to play two years of minor league baseball.   He played in 2003 with the Texas Rangers minor league system, and in 2004, he played with the Tampa Bay Rays minor league system.
