See Oconee’s beauty, but there’s unsightly litter, too

The forecast is for sunny skies and 77 degrees on Saturday for the Third Annual Great Oconee Cleanup. The organized litter pickup will start at 8:30 in the morning. When you look at Oconee’s natural beauty, the views are awe-inspiring. However, in too many parts of the county there’s evidence of careless and indiscriminate litter. This year’s operation aims to remove litter from the roadside areas of Wells Highway from 123 (the Sandifer Boulevard) to the other end of Wells at the Clemson Boulevard. The pickup area will include Davis Mill Road, two miles of the Shiloh Road, and one mile of Seneca’s S. Walnut Street. Anyone able may volunteer and should meet at 8:30 at Seneca High School, where parking is available. You can pre-register at www.eventbrite.com (search for Great Oconee Clean Up. The first 150 registrants get free T-shirts. Those who take part will be provided safety vests, gloves, bags, water, and litter grabbers. Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Any questions can be directed to KOBA email [email protected] or by phone at 864/247-4583.
