Sara Collins Reid, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in South Carolina, at her residence
Born on August 7, 1939, in Oconee County, South Carolina, to the late Benny Franklin Collins and Ina Burton Collins Singleton, Sara’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and thoughtfulness. Sara provided in home daycare for many years to many children and was “Nana” to many who loved her dearly, she had a great passion for flowers and gardening, and enjoyed studying her Bible. Sara’s life was a portrait of unwavering commitment to her family and community. She was a pillar of strength, always extending a helping hand and a listening ear to those around her. Her generous spirit was felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her thoughtful gestures left a lasting impact.
Sara was the beloved wife of the late Billy Joe Reid, and together they built a life full of warmth and cherished memories. A devoted mother, she leaves behind her daughters, Frankie Ables and her husband Alan, and Myra Hyde and her husband James, who will forever hold her teachings and affection in their hearts. Sara was the treasured matriarch of an extensive family, including her siblings, Alton “Poe” Collins and Ella Mae Lee. Her legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren, Jessica Ables Norris (Tony), Ben Ables (Nicki), Joseph Hyde (Jessica), Lynn Klee (Keegan), and William Price; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers, Benjie, Bobby, Clint, Garlon, Jack, and Mike Collins, and her sisters, Retha Anderson, Mary McAlister, Maletta Bond, Myrna Collins, Nell Ree Nordella, and Janice Shetler.
As we bid farewell to Sara Collins Reid, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart so freely given. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family, a reminder of the enduring power of love. Sara’s story does not end with her passing but lives on through the lives she touched and the love she shared.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, February 5th, 2026 at Earles Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
