Ridding unhealthy South Carolina distinction

South Carolina has consistently ranked in the top 10 states with the highest firearm-related homicides.  It’s a distinction that the state public health department wants to go away.  The Department of Public Heath seeks public input to help develop the first statewide plan to support Community Violence Intervention and Prevention programs.  The department, with help from ISI Consulting, activates a survey starting today through December 20.  Survey data will be used to determine high-level goals for the state.  Mini grants are available to nonprofit and community-based partnerships that serve communities disproportionately affected by violence.  Grant recipients have used grants to educate parents and the young on gun violence and prevention.
