REVEREND CHARLES CORDELL GODWIN, SR.

Westminster- Reverend Charles Cordell Godwin, Sr; 82, husband of Doris Godwin, it is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Reverend Cordell Godwin, a devoted servant of the Lord, on January 1st, 2024. Surrounded by his loving family, Reverend Godwin transitioned to eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith and dedicated service to his community.

 

Reverend Cordell Godwin’s journey began at the tender age of 16 when he answered the divine calling to serve the Lord. Throughout his remarkable life, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the ministry, touching the lives of countless individuals with his compassion, wisdom, and spiritual guidance.

 

Born to spread the message of love and salvation, Reverend Godwin’s impact was felt within the walls of his churches and across the broader community. His sermons and powerful prayers resonated with authenticity and sincerity, earning him the respect and admiration of those fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Driven by his compassionate heart, Reverend Godwin poured himself into visitation by showing pastoral care to those who were sick, hurting, or in need of comfort. His commitment to visiting went beyond his ability to drive, as he would humbly request family members to transport him to those in need.

Reverend Godwin was preceded in death by his former wife, Patricia, whose memory remains cherished by those who knew her. Patricia’s warmth and grace added immeasurable joy to Reverend Godwin’s earlier years. In more recent times, Reverend Godwin found companionship and support in his current wife, Doris, whose love brought comfort and happiness to his later years. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Clifton Godwin, J.B. Godwin, Roger Godwin, Herman Godwin, Eugene Godwin, and Irene Wells.  

 Reverend Godwin is also survived by his daughters Diane Snow, of Coats, NC; Charlene Grogan (Jeff) of West Union, SC; and son Charles Godwin (Denise) of West Union, SC; his 7 grandchildren Michelle Klocko, Nikki Hall, Tracy Jones, Heather Grogan, Jeremy Grogan, Cory Godwin, Lacey Godwin; and 7 great-grandchildren Alyssa Martin, Zachary Holbrooks, Presley Hall, Bayleigh Jones, Parker Jones, Riley Grogan, and Silas Stone. 

Reverend Godwin’s family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense joy in witnessing the growth and accomplishments of each generation. His wisdom and warmth will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the congregations he served with unwavering devotion.

The memory of Reverend Cordell Godwin will continue to inspire and uplift those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn his physical absence, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a soul that has found eternal rest in the embrace of the Heavenly Father.

To honor and remember Reverend Cordell Godwin, funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, January 3rd, 2024 at the North Walhalla Church of God, with burial to follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm, January 3rd, 2024 at the church. While flowers are welcomed, the family also suggests donating to Hospice of the Foothills Hospice, Cottingham Hospice House, Attn: Foundation Office, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC 29672, or the North Walhalla Church of God, Building Fund, 426 Deaton Road, Walhalla, SC, 29691, in honor of Reverend Cordell Godwin.
