Record high numbers of people at work

South Carolina reported a record high number of people gainfully employed in the month of March. Figures from the Department of Employment and Workforce showed the workforce jumped by an estimated 6,800 people—to a record of 2.2 million. Oconee County enjoyed a smaller jobless rate than that of both the state and federal averages. In Oconee County, the DEW counted a workforce of 35 and a half thousand people and 1,100 looking for work. The March percentages were 3.1% unemployment in Oconee; 3.2% in South Carolina; and 3.8% nationwide.
