Rebecca Long

 Tamassee, SC — Rebecca Sue Smith Long, 90, wife of the late Alvin C. Long, of Tamassee, SC, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Seneca Health and Rehab.

 

A native of Oconee County, SC, Mrs. Long was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Jane Barker Smith. She was affectionately known as “Granny Sue” to those who knew and loved her. In her spare time, she loved crocheting and embroidery, making many blankets, pictures and tablecloths for her family and loved ones. She loved her family and church family. Mrs. Long loved serving the Lord and was a member of Cheohee Baptist Church.

 

Mrs. Long is survived by her son: David Alexander (Patricia) of Tamassee; daughters: Linda Sue Alexander of Westminster and Janice Powell (Joe) of Tamassee; grandchildren: Denver Alexander (Leia), April Leopard (Jeff), Kristy Davis and Alyx Powell; great-grandchildren: Logan Alexander (Sydney), Claire Sherman (Tyler), Carson Alexander, Jacob Leopard, Nicholas Grant, Octavia Wright, Kamill Wright and AJ Wright; sister: Irene Alexander; brother-in-law: Arnold Alexander; and sister-in-law: Betty Smith.

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her first husband: Denver Ray Alexander; brothers: Lawrence Smith (Aloe), J.B. Smith, George Smith (Jessie Lee), Ralph Smith (Juanita) and Ray Smith; sisters: Edith Neal (Robert), Ruth Oliver (Harlie), Johnnie Lee Talley (Jack) and Ola Belle Reid (Clifton); brother-in-law: Henry Alexander; son-in-law: Joe Powell; and granddaughter: Amber Davis.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 7, 2025 at Cheohee Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Friday, February 7, 2025, prior to the service, at Cheohee Baptist Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cheohee Baptist Church Cemetery Fund: 829 Cheohee Valley Rd., Tamassee, SC 29686.

 

The family is at their respective homes.
