Re-zoning vote allow for a second Westminster Dollar General

A vote by the Westminster City Council will allow for a second Dollar General store in the city. But, in the opinion of one neighbor, a second Dollar General within a mile and a half of another is one too many. The council last night approved a planning commission recommendation to change the zoning at Hope Street and U-S 76 to accommodate Dollar General’s new store plans. Mayor Brian Ramey acknowledged the opposition of Hope Street resident Helen Powell, but said creating a neighborhood business zone for the property is more palatable than leaving it in a light industrial zone, which could open the door to the kinds of businesses that would be more distasteful than a retail store.
