Police chief wants curfew

The Westminster police chief asked the city council last night to consider a curfew to apply toward children 14 and under. Chief Rory Jones submitted the request based on an ordinance used by a suburb in Chicago, Illinois that he says would work for his city. Jones told the mayor and council that a group of children late at night have been “basically terrorizing” the city by setting fires and buying and selling drugs. And, he indicated, the youngsters show no remorse. Said Jones: “They want to be locked up.” So far, the police chief says, the parents of the children have been no help, and he wants the ordinance to include the authority to issue citations to the parents of the offending children. The mayor and council accepted Jones’s request without comment. The police chief said, “I want you to read this.”
