Plaintiff’s husband testifies in civil court trial

The testimony by the husband of plaintiff Camille Hess completed day two in the trial of Hess against Dr. Miles McGuff and the Oconee Medical Center. John Hess said in the hospital emergency department they were given the address to an ophthalmologist in Greenville and quickly drove there for her to be treated for a detached retina, but the address entered in their GPS sent them to a wrong address a delay, in his estimation of 20 minutes. According to Mr. Hess, ophthalmologist Dr. Joseph Parisi immediately diagnosed a retinal artery occlusion which causes sudden, severe visual loss. Today, Mr. Hess says, his wife can see only around the edges from her left eye and suffers the loss of depth vision which has left her unable to drive long distances. The jury yesterday heard testimony about the morning in 2014 when Mrs. Hess awoke to loss of vision in her left eye, as well as a text message sent to the Hess’s by their physician daughter-in-law which implored them to immediately to seek treatment for a possible stroke. Mr. Hess saved that text message and, under cross-examination by a Dr. McGuff attorney, was asked if his intent to save the text was to pursue a lawsuit later. Trial resumes 9:30 this morning at the Oconee Courthouse.
