One-day COVID record shattered by South Carolina

South Carolina reports it worst day for COVID-19 spread.  One week ago, the state recorded its highest case number.  But that number was eclipsed today by more than 700.  The newest numbers are 3,127 confirmed and probable cases; 47 more deaths.  The South Carolina death toll is now 4,673 and the case count exceeds 245,000.  Dr. Brannon Traxler, the interim public health director, says, “While the arriving vaccine is the light at the end of the tunnel, it will be months before there is enough vaccine available for everyone.  It is incumbent upon all of us to continue to take actions aimed at saving lives.”  The new case count today includes 53 Oconeeans.  The new death count included one elderly Oconeean who died October 25 and five Pickens County residents. Total tests results received:  16,897; the positivity, however, was 18.6% — as compared with yesterday’s 21.3%.
