On a January day, 70 were homeless in Oconee

On one winter’s day in January, at least 70 people in Oconee County fell into the category of homeless. This was learned this week by the Oconee County Council when the council received a presentation from the executive director of the United Housing Connections. Leslie Crowl told the council that on that particular January day, 35 people were homeless but in shelters and 35 were non-sheltered. Crowl’s organization counted homelessness statewide and found that Richland County had the highest homeless population. Oconee’s homeless population for that January day ranked it 11th highest among the 46 counties.
