Oconee industry park hailed as visionary
A tip of the fedora is being extended to Oconee County from the man who sits in the top office of the electric power provider—the Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative. Jim Lovinggood, Blue Ridge president/CEO, says as far as he can tell, the Oconee Industry and Technology Park on n. highway 11 is “South Carolina’s first-of-its-kind project that seeks to blend classroom learning with onsite job training.” Lovinggood’s complimentary remarks are part of his Blue Ridge column in the latest edition of SC Co-OP News. For anyone who has driven by the OTIP of late, you notice a re-arranged hillside in front of the latest construction project there—the new career and technology center for the Oconee public schools. The park is home to Tri-County Tech’s new Oconee campus and a pair of Baxter Industries manufacturing plants.
