Oconee connections pursue the big league dream

The grandsons of an Oconee County couple are making strides to reach the level of major league baseball. They are Michael and Jonathan Gettys of Gainesville, Georgia—the grandsons of Donna and Wayne Morton of Chickasaw point. Wayne is a retired WGOG personality. Twenty-two year old Michael Gettys is an outfielder for San Antonio Missions, farm team of the San Diego Padres. The Padres were named a few days ago as having the farm system in major league baseball. Michael leads his team in stolen bases and in home runs with 12. His younger brother, Jonathan, is a left-handed pitcher for Valdosta State University who has been clocked with a mid 90s fastball. He too is hopeful of attracting interest from a big league team.
