“Nothing new” to explain I-85 death

After one year, the coroner says there’s “nothing new” to explain the circumstances of a Kentucky man killed apparently while walking on Interstate-85 in Oconee County.  It was a year ago that Coroner Karl Addis appealed to the public for any information that could help solve the death of Lanny Mest, 53 years old.  The body of Mest was found April 18, 2020 near the southbound lanes of 85 near Fair Play, south of exit 4.  The fatal injuries were consistent with what Addis said with being a pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle in what appeared to have been a hit-and-run.  Anyone who witnessed the collision may contact the coroner’s office at 864/885-0687 or the South Carolina Highway Patrol at 864/260-2200.
