No 8-and-under Walhalla football

Parental concern over the potential for concussions is being laid as the reason why there won’t be enough children to field an 8-and-under recreation department football team this year in Walhalla.  Recreation Director John Galbreath made the announcement during last night’s city council meeting.  Galbreath told the city’s elected leaders that parents are aware of growing reports about the propensity of head injuries in what’s often a rough contact sport.  However, Galbreath says the the city’s recreation department offers top of the line helmets to protect its players.  Mayor Danny Edwards commented that, aside from football, the recreation department offers a number of other fall sports in which kids may engage.
