New state agency director has visited Oconee often

A new South Carolina government agency director requires no introduction to Oconee County and the Golden Corner.  Tom Mullikin, retired major general, was tapped recently to be the new director of the state DNR.  Ken Sloan of Visit Oconee says Mullikin, a supporter of the Palmetto Trail, has spoken and visited in Oconee in connection with the trail that stretches from Oconee to Awendaw near Charleston.  “While he was here,” says Sloan, “he took advantage of our natural resources.”  Mullikin has rafted the Chattooga and toured Lake Jocassee.  He’s awaiting state senate confirmation to succeed the retiring Robert Boyles.
