New commerce in Newry

The new general store in Newry has been doing business for two weeks, but the ribbon-cutting was today. The Newry General Store offering dairy items, meats, and baked goods is one of the M-Peters Group’s building renovations is one component of the transformation that has been in the works for four years in a community that once sported a long running textile plant.  Remnants of the former textile mill have been turned into apartments, to be occupied shortly by the first tenants.  The building housing the general store also contains a renovated post office facility and a 150-capacity conference center upstairs.  Downstairs, the general store is managed by John Eargle, who used to work at the Swamp Rabbit Grocery in Travelers Rest.
