Muriel Cleland

Seneca – Muriel Virginia Spencer Cleland, 89, wife of the late Edward Horace Cleland, passed away on Saturday, September 4th, 2021, at Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House.

 

 Muriel was born in the Madison Community, and was the daughter of the late Newt Ray and Virginia Hudson Spencer.  Muriel along with her husband, Horace was the owner and operator of Cleland’s Restaurant in Westminster, for 34 years and was very involved in the community, and attended Foothills Community Church. She loved gardening, crocheting, cooking and sharing with family and friends, especially her cheesecakes.  

 

Muriel is survived by her son, James Horace Cleland of Seneca; Carol Cleland Rowland  and husband Butch of Westminster and Teena Cleland Hunt and husband Jim of Seneca; sisters; Doris Spencer Jarrett of Eaton, Georgia, Elizabeth Spencer Stowe of Warner Robins, Georgia, Betty Spencer Litaker of Sumter, South Carolina, and Bonnie Spencer Smith (Tyrus) of Toccoa, Georgia; six grandchildren, Ginnie Rowland, Cory Rowland, Cassie Rowland Helms (Jay), Connie Standridge (Steve), Menley Hunt and Audrey Hunt; ten great grandchildren, Rhett Rowland, Mattie Rowland, Rowland Helms, Stella Helms, Ellen Anne Helms, Colt Rowland, JC Rowland, Stephanie Teal (Matt), Nicole Milam (Daniel), and Patrick Standridge; two great great-grandchildren, Landen Teel and Scarlet Teel.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, Muriel is preceded in death by a brother, James Claude Spencer and a sister, Queena Spencer Marcengill.

 

A funeral service will be held, 3:00 pm, Wednesday, September 8th, 2021, at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Oconee Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service, 1:00 pm – 2:30pm, Wednesday, September 8th, 2021.

 

The family is at their respective homes.
