Mountain Rest fire protection clarified

Mountain Rest is to remain unchanged going into a new government year.  Chairman Matthew Durham of Oconee County Council says some who’ve been concerned should know there’s no change when it comes to the volunteer fire station.  Durham says, “Mountain Rest has never been part of the County’s fire service contract with the City of Walhalla.” That contract, Durham explains, covers only the unincorporated areas immediately surrounding the city within the Walhalla fire district.  Durham says, “Mountain Rest continues to be served by the Mountain Rest Volunteer Fire Department and Oconee County Rural Fire, just as it always has.  Walhalla will continue to provide mutual aid support — and receive it — as needed.”
