Motorcyclist Identified in Fatality

An Upstate man who was killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon has now been identified.

According to a release from Oconee County Corner Karl Addis, the deceased is identified as James Richard “Richie” Rogers, Jr, Age 32 of Seneca.

The accident occurred around 2:45 pm at the intersection of Singing Pines Road and Imports Drive. According to the State Highway Patrol, a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle driven by Rogers collided with a 2006 Dodge pickup truck, driven by 62-year-old William Edward Hardin of Seneca.

According to troopers, the accident was caused due to the driver of the truck failing to yield the right of way. Hardin was not injured but was charged with failure to yield for a stop sign.

At the time of the collision, troopers say both the Rogers and his passenger, now identified as his wife, were thrown from the bike and neither was wearing their helmet.

The wife was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital and her condition is unknown at this time.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into this collision.
