MLK Way for Seneca

Seneca to Honor MLK with Street Naming

After years of debate, Seneca has agreed on a way to remember the late Civil Rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. A section of South Sixth Street shall now be known as Martin Luther King Way. The resolution, approved last night by city council, stipulates that all businesses and home owners along the stretch keep their existing addresses. Gaines presented the recommendation as chairman of the public works committee, whose members include Scott Durham and Joel Ward. Gaines said part of South Sixth Street named for King is significant in that it takes in an African American cemetery dating back to the 19th century.
