Miyoko Suzuki Capps

Westminster, SC – Miyoko Suzuki Capps, 90, widow of the late Homer Joe Capps, passed away September 8, 2019 at Lila Doyle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 

 

Born in Numazu City, Japan in 1928, Miyoko was the daughter of the late Minoru and Nao Goto Suzuki. As a teen, she bravely helped her family survive the hardships of World War II in Japan, including the repeated bombing of her hometown. She taught herself English, and married Homer Capps in 1955. She moved to America with Homer and her young son, Gene, in 1957. 

 

Miyoko was an avid gardener, and a wonderful cook. She also loved music, and especially enjoyed singing. She was an expert seamstress and knitter. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

 

Survivors include a son, Eugene “Gene” L. Capps and his wife Susan of Westminster, SC; a daughter, Grace Capps Cantrell and husband Chris of Greenville, SC; sisters, Masae Suzuki and Hiromi Suzuki of Numazu City, Japan; grandchildren Tanner, Daniel, and Julianna, and 4 great-grandchildren, Ruthie, Selah, Suzuki (Suzi) and Benjamin Capps. 

 

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Capps is preceded in death by her sister, Misao Suzuki and her brothers, Ichiro and Fujio Suzuki.

 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am, Saturday, September 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10-11 am prior to the service.
