Melvin Owens

Walhalla-Melvin Curtis Owens, 78, of 405 Walnut Street, Walhalla, SC passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at AnMed Hospital.

A native of Oconee County, he was the son of the late Pilgrim and Mary Rogers Owens. Mr. Owens retired from Mayfair Mills in Pickens SC. He was the founder of the Carolina Clearwater Band and was the pianist and a great one. He was the “Mel” man. He loved playing the piano, as well as country music and played music for many, many years. He was a talented musician, had a great voice and could sing like no other. He loved to cook, indoors and out and was the best cook ever and he knew it. He could grill the best steak ever, make the best cornbread ever, the best salmon patties ever (he/we pronounce the “L”). He was a giver, helper and had many, many friends that he loved. He loved his family, dearly. To “know him” was to “love him”. He will be greatly missed by all that were fortunate enough to known him.

He is survived by his sister: Avis Moss and brother: Wayne Owens (Drenda), daughters: Deborah Owens, Lisa Owens (David), Tracy Cannon (Tripp), stepchildren: Terry Bryson (Peggy) and Teresa Nation (Greg), grandchildren: Jennifer Lippert, Matthew Poore, Ashley Sanders, Kaleb Nation, Dylan Blackwell and Galen Bryson and a number of great grandchildren. He is also survived by a special friend and caretaker whom he thought the world of and cared for and loved very much, Joyce Fowler. A special sister in law, Brenda Hunnicutt who cooked and helped care for him, as well, plus many more neighbors and friends.
