MARY JOYCE COLLINS
Westminster – Mary Joyce King Collins, 93, wife of the late Walter Young Collins, passed away on Wednesday, March 8th, 2023 at Lila Doyle Post-Acute.
Born in Westminster, South Carolina, Joyce was the daughter of the late Levis Franklin King and Cynthia Elizabeth “Bess” Owens King. Joyce was a Westminster High School graduate class of 1945 and later a graduate of Lander University in 1949, Joyce was a dedicated retired teacher with the Oconee County School District having taught at South Union, Oakway, and Westminster Elementary Schools. She was a member of Westminster First Baptist Church, having served as a Sunday School Teacher for both adults and children, a Vacation Bible School Teacher, and a member of the TEL Sunday School Class.
As a dedicated and well-loved teacher, Joyce contributed and made many great influences on the students she taught, her career was rewarded, and the impressions on the students, friends, and family will not be forgotten.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Kathy Smith and husband Jerry, Karen Leard and husband Gerald, and Kim Crenshaw and husband Mike; five grandchildren, Reagan Smith, BJ Tompkins, Lauren Campbell, Whitney Smith Jones, Cade Crenshaw, and Gracie Crenshaw; and one great-granddaughter, Claire Jones.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy Richard King and Novyce Carter King.
A Funeral Service will be held at 4:00 pm, Sunday, March 12th, 2023, at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel, with a private burial to take place at First Baptist Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm prior to the service at Sandifer Funeral Home.
