Margaret E. “Meg) (Tatman) Smith

Margaret E. (Meg) (Tatman) Smith, 90, of Walhalla, SC passed away at Lyla Doyle Nursing Home in Seneca, SC. Meg was born in Marysville, OH on June 5, 1932, to Ralph and Hughie Anna Tatman. Meg graduated Marysville High School in 1950. She married Charles Smith on September 17, 1950.

Survivors include Susan Smith of North Kingstown, RI, Ken Keenan of Troy, NY, Tony (Hellynn) Smith of Louisville, GA, and Carmen (Terry) Kight of Franklin, NC. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, sisters Clarice Schaliff and Annis Moore, her husband Charles Smith in 1996 and their daughter Renee Keenan.

Meg was an original descendant from the Mayflower on her father Ralph’s side of the family. Meg was a devoted wife and mother who absolutely loved her family and pets. Meg and Charles owned a restaurant Ohio where she made her pies from scratch like nobody’s business. Meg would often say “If I had a nickel for every pie I made, I’d be rich”. She was a career Navy wife who later settled in Virginia Beach, VA and then relocated to Plattsburgh, NY before moving to South Carolina. Meg was an accomplished organist/choir director and pianist who once played the Easter Sunrise Service aboard the USS Carl Vinson, as well as an avid golfer who traveled all over the world. Meg was also involved in many charitable events donating her handmade quilts and crafts.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Lyla Doyle Nursing Home for the wonderful care that they gave to Margaret. May God Bless Them All.
