Loyd Cecil Prewett

Seneca, SC — Loyd Cecil Prewett of Seneca, SC, age 96 and a devout Christian and servant of God his entire life, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Oconee Memorial Hospital while surrounded by his loved ones.

 

Son of the late Lucy and Dan Prewett, Loyd was born on January 23, 1923, in Dallas, GA. After spending his early years in Paulding County, he moved to Atlanta and received training which helped him prepare for his move and career in Toccoa, GA with R.G. Letourneau/WABCO where he climbed to Plant Superintendent. He married Aileen Oakley in Toccoa and they lived there until her death in 1980. He then married Mona Halford and lived with her in both Atlanta, GA, and Indiana. Between both marriages, Loyd had three children: Danny, Tracy, and Christy. In Indiana, after retiring from WABCO, he got involved in the Custom Closet business with Closet Tamers of Indiana. Introducing his son, Danny, to the industry, Loyd is considered the founder and first generation of the now third-generation family business, Carolina Closets based in Anderson, SC.

 

During his life, he was active in the Lions Club International, serving as District Secretary and District Governor. Also, he helped form the Amidec Corporation in Toccoa, GA and later became the CEO of that organization. He was also very active in Gideons International through its Seneca Camp.

 

In addition to his parents, Loyd was preceded in death by his sister, Amy Barber, and wife, Aileen Oakley Prewett.

 

Loyd is survived by his wife, Mona Prewett; three children, Danny Prewett, Tracy Weaver, and Christy Martinez; eight grandchildren, Paul Prewett, Matt Prewett, Candace Miller, Melissa Hughes, Blaine Weaver, Hunter Lacamu, Holden Lacamu, EveAngeline Davis; 10 great-grandchildren, Raegan Prewett, Joshua Prewett, Nate Prewett, Daniel Prewett, Gabriella Hughes, Patrisha Hughes, Fate Redden, Ariana Weaver, Dorian Weaver, Soloman Davis.

 

The family will receive friends at Davenport Funeral Home in West Union, SC, on Friday, August 23, 2019, 6 pm until 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at Utica Baptist Church in Seneca, SC, on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at 2 pm and there will be a graveside service afterward at Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa, GA at 4:30.
