Local Democratic leader sees hope for stimulus

The chairwoman of Oconee Democrats sees some movement in the impasse between her party and the Republicans over a new stimulus bill.  Jody Gaulin sees common ground between the moderate leaders of both parties and the possibility that a bill could be reported out of the legislative chambers by the October recess, in advance of the November election.  Julian Davis, chairman of the all-Republican Oconee County Council, is hopeful that a new bill won’t be a repeat of the earlier one that some saw as offering so much unemployment money that paid displaced workers more than they would have made if they had been on the job.  That’s a position that Democrat Gaulin takes issue with.
