Lightning damage at the Rock Crusher

A lightning strike occurred Tuesday at the Oconee Rock Quarry near Walhalla and, Oconee County says, repairs are expected to take five to six days.  The lightning bolt hit the jaw crusher and damaged the frequency inverter.  The damage occurred at a time for scheduled maintenance and the re-construction of two cone crushers.  For the next approximate five to six days, quarry rock production is halted for the duration of the repairs.  Products currently available at the quarry are 2” x 3” Surge; screenings; asphalt sand; Class B, C and D Rip Rap; and Class E and Flat Boulders.  A return to normal operations is expected Friday, April 23.  “We greatly appreciate the patience and understanding of our consumers and apologize for any inconvenience,” the county says.
