Joy Chamberlain

Salem, SC — Lillian Joyce “Joy” Chamberlain, 83, wife of Donald Sherwood Chamberlain, of 2 Coxswain Place, Salem, passed away Friday, September 6, 2019, at Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House.

 

A native of Chicago, IL, Mrs. Chamberlain was the daughter of the late William and Clara Clemenson Knudsen. She graduated from Evanston Hospital in Evanston, IL as a registered nurse. During her tenure, she worked as a surgical nurse, physician assistant and was also involved in the education of numerous nurses. Mrs. Chamberlain also worked with the United Way and worked in corporate art leasing.

 

Following her and Don’s retirement, they returned to Keowee Key in 1988, where they became very involved in the community. Don and Joy were members of Cross Creek Plantation and Keowee Key Country Club, and she enjoyed golfing and gardening. They both enjoyed traveling, and have visited over 100 countries with their goal of learning more about ancient civilizations.

 

In addition to her husband; Mrs. Chamberlain is survived by a son: Daniel Chamberlain (Camilla) of Fishers, IN; a daughter: Cheryl Chamberlain of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Cole and Olivia Chamberlain; and a great-grandchild: Camden Chamberlain.

 

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at the Clubhouse at Keowee Key.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Camden Military Academy, 520 US-1, Camden, SC 29020; the Keowee Fire Department, 115 Maintenance Rd, Salem, SC 29676; or to a charity of one’s choice.
