Johnnie “John” Gibson

Westminster – Johnnie “John” Clifton Gibson, 91, husband of Bonnie Ruth Fulbright Gibson of 70 years of beloved marriage, passed away Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022 at Prisma Health Cottingham Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

 

   A native of Richland, South Carolina, he was the son of the late John Henry Gibson and Janie Ramey Gibson.  Mr. Gibson retired from West Point Pepperell where he worked as a weaver, and was a faithful member of Eastminster Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of deacons, Sunday School teacher and song leader. John had a great passion for woodworking and trout fishing. John was the last surviving member of his family.   

 

   Survivors in addition to his wife include sons, James Gibson (Vera), Tommy Gibson (Tricia), Robert “Hoot” Gibson (the late Vickey), Ben Gibson; daughters, Jeanne Burdette, Lisa Barry (Jason); thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild; son by claim, Yousef Mefleh, several nieces and nephews, and one that was partially reared in the home, Pam Fulbright Warner.

 

   In addition to his parents and fourteen siblings, he is preceded in death by a son, Darrell Edward Gibson, and a daughter in law, Vickey Gibson.

 

A Funeral Service will be held 11 am, Friday, August 5th, 2022 at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at First Baptist Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 4th, 2022 at Sandifer Funeral Home.
