John “Shawn” Dale Smith

West Union, SC — John “Shawn” Dale Smith, 70, husband of the late Ava Monique Cohen Smith, of West Union, SC, passed away on July 24, 2026.

 

Mr. Smith is survived by his sons: Augustus David Cohen and Benjamin Lewis Cohen (Adrianna); brother: Vincent Smith; sister: Shanna Smith; and grandchildren: Cooper Cohen and Dakota Cohen.

 

Shawn Smith born in Miami, Florida and raised in Texas, was an avid motocross rider since the early 1970’s and as his passion grew so did his ability to be a recognized motocross rider throughout the central and southeastern United States, receiving many trophies and awards.

He lived in Denver, Colorado from the age of 35.  He married Ava Monique Cohen Smith where they lived in Parker and Elizabeth, Colorado. They both loved the Colorado mountains and spent much time with the great friends, at their vacation condo in Cabo San Lucas and traveling various golf and trail riding adventures in the US. He and Ava moved to West Union, SC in 2023. Shawn has many friends throughout the United States whom he always kept close contact with. Shawn passed while riding trails with friends in the Colorado mountains, being where and doing what he loved most.

 

A graveside service will be conducted 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Walhalla, SC.

 

A memorial will be held on August 29,2026 with a (salute) ride beginning at 11:00 AM and a memorial service scheduled at 5:00 pm -9:00 pm at Thunder Mountain race track.
