JOHN LELAND PETTIT

Walhalla, SC– John Leland Pettit, 83, husband of the late Martha Graham Pettit, of Walhalla, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Cottingham Hospice House.

 

A native of Oconee County, Mr. Pettit was the son of the late Arvel Buren and Mabel Crocker Pettit. He retired from Sangamo as a superintendent and was a member of College Street Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Pettit is survived by his son: Bill Mathis (Laura); daughters: Sherry Kuemmerer (Joey), Melanie Hauser (Chris), Sharon Tollison (Andrew), Lita Justus (Roger), and Rhonda Tippett (Brian); brother: Arvel Pettit; ten grandchildren: Jay Neal, Christen Pietrykowski, Heather Mathis, Kris Justus, Jason Broome, Angela Craft, Matt Fowler, Lacey Smith, Levi Tippett and Lakyn Tippett; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren with one on the way; and his beloved dog: Brackston.

 

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Pettit was preceded in death by sisters: Mary Braddock, Frances Quarles, Betty Jo Moore, Rilla Stancil, and Remel Oliver.

 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Oconee Memorial Park.
