John Franklin James

Union, SC– Mr. John Franklin James, Sr., age 57, husband of Michelle Moore James of 101 Woodhaven Place, Union, South Carolina passed away August 6, 2022, at Saint Francis Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.

Mr. James was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina, on October 10, 1964, the son of Doctor Stanford and Mary Huggins James.  He was a 1982 graduate of Union Academy and a 1986 graduate of Furman University with a degree in computer science and mathematics.

Mr. James served as Director of Technology for Cherokee County Schools in Gaffney, South Carolina.  In the past, he served as Executive Director of Technology for Rock Hill Schools, Fairfield County School District, and Converse College. He was Chairman of the Olde English Consortium, Member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators, Presenter at the South Carolina Future of Education Technology Conference, and Leader of the Upstate Technology Group.

Mr. James was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He was an avid Clemson Tiger fan and football fan.  Mr. James was a football analyst for Union High School and was a member of the 1999, 2000, and 2002, 3A Union High School State Championship Football Games.  In 2005, Mr. James was also a member of the 2005 Gaffney High School State Championship Football Game.  Mr. James worked with the Jonesville High School football team during the 2006 season. His analysis of opponents’ offenses and statistical tracking helped contribute to winning state championships.  Mr. James loved attending sporting events and watching his own children compete as well as former players.

In addition to his wife Michelle, are a son John Franklin James, Jr. (Jack) of Union, and a daughter Mary Kathryn James of Union.  Mr. James is survived by a sister Susan James Ingram of Florence, SC, and two brothers, William Stanford James, Jr. and wife Anne Marie of Charlotte, NC, and David James, and wife Kelly of Shallotte, NC.  Mr. James is survived by his in-law Coach Billy Jack and Kathryn Easton Moore of Union, SC, and a sister-in-law Shannon Moore Hill and her husband Kevin, and their children Hannah and Rebecca Hill of Greenville, SC.  Mr. James is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  Mr. James was predeceased by a sister Mary Ann James and a brother-in-law Chip Ingram of Florence, SC.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Lee Phillips.

Visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church immediately following the service.  A private burial will be held at Oconee Memorial Gardens in Seneca, South Carolina.
