Joel Ashley Slaton

FAIR PLAY – Joel Ashley Slaton, 84, passed away peacefully into God’s loving arms on November 15, 2018 at home after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family.

 

Joel was born January 17, 1934 in Anderson, SC to the late Joseph Ashley Breazeale and Gladys Myree Slaton.  

 

Joel was a proud veteran of the Korean War who served in the Army from 1952-1954. In 1955, he married the love of his life, Patsy Wiley and enrolled at Clemson University, where they became lifelong Tiger fans. He enjoyed golf, traveling with his wife, singing in the choir and serving in the church. He especially enjoyed his mission trips to Africa, which held a special place in his heart. He had a great sense of humor and a terrific attitude towards life. His greatest joys were his faith and his family.

 

He was predeceased in death by his parents, sister Helen and brother Christopher. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pat; brother Lamar Breazeale (Sybil) of Taylors, SC; sisters, Mary Joe Thrasher (Bill) of Greer, SC, Becky Bagwell of Taylor, SC, Sherry Outlaw (Frank) of Taylors, SC; sons, Wayne Slaton of Fair Play, SC, Ward Slaton (Michelle) of Cumming, GA; grandchildren Weston Slaton and Walker Slaton; as well as many special nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

 

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, November 18th, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Earles Grove Baptist Church, 398 Cedar Lane Road, Westminster, SC 29693. Visitation will follow the service at the church.
