Jerry Marszal

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Jerry Marszal, age 93, on Thursday November 12th, 2020 at Residences at Park Place, Seneca.  After an exceptional life, his heart could no longer go on.

Mr. Marszal was born on January 2nd, 1927 in Warsaw, Poland.  He was orphaned at an early age by the untimely death of both of his parents.  He was raised in a Catholic orphanage.  At age 12 he was taken prisoner by the NAZI military and was in several forced labor camps throughout WW II.  Late in the war he escaped to the west, fully aware that the Russian military was coming from the east.  After the war he worked for 3 years as a coal miner in Austria.  Eventually he made his way to Paris, France.  He played the accordion in a band as he enjoyed his years in post war Europe.  In 1958 he was offered an opportunity to move to America, and he immigrated to Detroit MI where he started work as a machine operator at Valenite and became a citizen.   He married Rita Marszal on September 17th, 1960.  Jerry made his career with Valenite and became a plant manager, relocating to Westminster SC in 1977 where he settled with his young family.  After retirement he founded Quality Video Productions doing videography and video transfers.

Jerry had many interests.  He was an avid snow skier until the age of 85.  He loved music and dancing, especially polkas and waltzes.  Jerry was an exceptional conversationalist and loved to talk about current events.  He lived life to the fullest, celebrating every holiday and event.  However, his family and his faith

were the most important to him.  He cared for his wife of 48 years, Rita, especially when her health faltered.  He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church of Seneca.  He was respected, devoted, gracious, stern and charming.  He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, father-in-law and friend.

Mr. Marszal was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  He is survived by a son Cas Marszal of Seneca, daughters Christine Davis and husband Greg of Seneca, Mary Stallings and husband Chris of Athens, Ga., and Diane Bolding and husband Jason of Anderson.  He had 3 grandchildren, Garrett Davis, Cassandra Davis and Emma Wirtz.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am, Thursday, November 19th, 2020 at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca.  Committal will follow at the St. Paul’s Columbarium.
