James Smith

James Earl Smith, 69, of Walhalla, South Carolina, husband of Dena Juanita “Nita” Long Smith, passed away on January 6, 2026, at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital.

Born in Seneca, South Carolina, on June 20, 1956, James was the son of the late Howard Smith and Lillian Brooks Honc. He worked as a Heating and Air Technician and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

James is survived by his wife, Nita Smith; daughters, Amanda Dawn Smith Crowe of Townville, SC, and Hellery Magan Smith of Massachusetts; sisters, Judy Honea of Westminster, Jackie Smith of Westminster, and Pam Smith of Seneca; grandchildren, Austin Cobb of Walhalla, Raygan Wirtz of Brewster, MA, Megan Crowe of Walhalla, and Chase Wirtz of Long Creek; and great-grandchildren, Kinzley Dillard and Kasher Dillard of Liberty, SC, Bonnie May Wirtz of Long Creek, Dacre Ross Wirtz of Long Creek,  and Ava Cobb of Walhalla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Phillip Smith; and his sister, Lisa Smith Webb.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Sandifer Funeral Home Chapel.
