JAMES DORRENCE HUTCHINSON

Walhalla, SC– James Dorrence Hutchinson, 76, husband of Minnie Ann Thomas Hutchinson, of 129 Quail Haven Drive, Walhalla, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at his home.

 

A native of Troy, NC, Mr. Hutchinson was the son of Ruby Harris Hutchinson Dawkins of Lilesville, NC, and the late Harold Hutchinson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was an honor graduate of the Hawk Missile Class. Mr. Hutchinson was a member of the Blue Ridge Masonic Lodge #92 and served as a past president. He was also a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hutchinson was the owner of Oconee Auto Parts in Walhalla, SC.

 

In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Hutchinson is survived by his daughters: Tammy Hutchinson of Anderson and Tanya Hutchinson of Walhalla; brothers: Danny Hutchinson of Seneca and Richard “Dickie” Dawkins of Lilesville, NC; sister: Kay Howell of Peachland, NC; grandchildren: Alayna Hall and Thad Watkins; great-grandchild: Gavin Hall; and best friend: Tony “Slim” Jordan.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hutchinson was preceded in death by his step-father: Richard Dawkins.

 

A private family service will be held at a later date.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

 

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff and Foothills Hospice.
