IRENE ALLEY

Seneca – Irene Evans Alley, 97, wife of the late Harold Walker Alley, Jr., died Thursday, December 7, 2023, at The Oaks of Seneca.

 

Born in Abbeville, South Carolina, Irene was the daughter of the late William John and Lucille Link Evans.  She was a graduate of Erskine College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.  She spent 32 years as an elementary school teacher having taught in Greenville, Spartanburg, and Oconee County Schools.  Irene was a faithful member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca for over 60 years and enjoyed serving many years in various programs in the church, especially in Sunday School, UMW, and Caring Ministry.

She was also a member of the Seneca Literary and Civic Club for many years.

Irene is survived by her children; a son, Joseph (Jody) Harold Alley of Seneca, SC; a daughter, Mildred (Millie) Ann Alley Ricketts (Terry) of Abbeville, SC; one grandson, Blake Ricketts (Della), of Abbeville, SC; 2 great granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Evans, and her sister, Mildred E. Long.


A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held graveside, at 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood – Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Irene’s memory to Saint Mark United Methodist Church Caring Ministry, 616 Quincy Road, Seneca, SC 29678.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Oaks for the love and care that was shown to Irene during her residence there.
