Indictments are handed up in the Dornellas case
The South Carolina man who was arrested after he allegedly set fire to his truck with his small boy inside has been indicted. The indictments follow the arrest of Joshua Dornellas after a chase through two states. Lake Hartwell Radio WLHR at Lavonia reports the following indictments against Dornellas were handed up by the Franklin County Grand Jury: criminal attempt to murder, kidnapping, aggravated battery, cruelty to children in the first degree, arson in the first degree, aggravated assault on a police officer, endangering a child while driving under the influence, and a host of motor vehicle and traffic violations. On May 8, authorities say, Dornellas allegedly assaulted his son’s mother at her home in the Anderson County town of Belton and fled with his 3-year-old to Georgia. Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland said Dornellas allegedly poured an accelerant inside the cab of his truck, lit it, and jumped out the driver’s side with his son inside. The boy sustained third degree burns over most of his body and continues to recover at the Augusta, Georgia burn center.
