Ian is “not just a coastal event”

Here is a key point state government wishes to stress to all South Carolinians:  Ian is not just a coastal event.  All areas of South Carolina are subject to impacts.  According to the state climate office at Columbia, Ian likely will spend enough time crossing land in Florida and Georgia before reaching South Carolina to keep us from seeing the hurricane-force wind.  However, there is still a chance for sustained tropical storm-force wind along the South Carolina coast on Saturday.  Saturday could also bring isolated gusts over 40 mph to much of the state.  It’s still early, things can change.  Owners and operators of reservoirs statewide can prepare by taking pro-active steps to ready their dam for potential heavy rain.
